Unfortunately, only a few companies realize that an effective and productive relationship is as important as financial goals. But without the foundation being fixed, there’s nothing else you could do but dive into these communication problems and acknowledge them to fix them.

Some of the Barriers to communication include:

#1 Hierarchical

Until today, Hierarchical barriers remain as the most common barrier in the workplace. Keeping a structured organization is necessary, but when the interaction becomes flawed because of statuses, no game-changing exchange can happen between two or three people.

While it’s true that a manager must show his or her concern in cases of employee mediocrity or carelessness, it’s important to impart the message constructively -- dropping all kinds of sarcasm and contempt in one’s tone of voice. When employees realize that expressing his or her own views is not bad at all, managers open the invisible door that motivates authentic exchange.

Good leaders are expected to be professional, empathetic, and constructive when laying out the possible effects of an employees’ mediocrity on the job. Instead of showing biased disappointment, show them that you are open to hearing their thoughts, views, and opinions.

#2 Office Politics

Sadly, some organizations actually believe that spreading rumors and talking back can help each of them rise above their current status. A toxic environment like this can actually ruin the company because it hinders people from collaborating effectively.

How to fix this Problem: Promote transparency

Transparency means being transparent with your feelings, thoughts, and actions. Why were you hot-tempered this morning? Was it because the coffee machine broke? Was it because you got stuck in traffic? It’s important to tell your colleagues and employees why you felt that way to avoid being misunderstood. In the same way, you have to trust your employees and their shortcomings.

Sometimes, organizations just have to be together in a non-corporate setting to get along better. There are a lot of factors that affect communication, after all. Note, though, that the foundation of all the problems mentioned is rooted in the authenticity of the relationship.

Fortunately, building this relationship can be easy to start. By initiating activities such as a mobile escape room game, you build your employees’ relationship with each other, eventually making them stewards of productivity and collaboration as soon as they get back in the workplace.
